MP Priya Saroj Demands Probe into SSC Exam Chaos, Citing Irregularities and Women's Safety Lapses

In the wake of nationwide protests over significant disruptions in recent Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations, Member of Parliament Priya Saroj has formally intervened by writing to the SSC Chairman. The 25-year-old Samajwadi Party MP and Supreme Court lawyer is demanding an immediate investigation into widespread irregularities and critical lapses in the security of women candidates.

Widespread Protests Over SSC Exam Mismanagement

The call for a probe follows massive protests by students and educators across India, who have voiced their anger over what they term “gross mismanagement” of the SSC Selection Post Phase 13 exams, which ran from July 24 to August 1, 2025. The outrage, which trended on social media under hashtags like #SSCMisManagement, stems from numerous failures during the examination process.

Aspirants reported a host of problems, including:

  • Sudden Cancellations: Many candidates traveled hundreds of kilometers, only to discover their exams were canceled without any prior warning. Exams at two centers were officially canceled by the SSC due to “technical issues”.
  • Technical Glitches: The exams were marred by widespread technical failures, such as computer crashes, server problems, and faulty biometric systems.
  • Logistical Failures: There were also significant administrative errors, with some students being assigned to incorrect exam locations.

The growing frustration led to a “Delhi Chalo” protest movement, with large demonstrations taking place at Jantar Mantar and the CGO Complex in Delhi. Tensions escalated with the circulation of videos allegedly showing police using force, including lathi charges, on protesters.

Priya Saroj’s Call for Accountability

Priya Saroj’s letter to the SSC chairman brings these grievances to the highest levels, focusing on the operational failures of the private agency contracted to conduct the exams and the safety of the candidates. A significant portion of the blame from students and teachers has been directed at the SSC’s new exam vendor, Eduquity, which has been accused of incompetence and has been associated with past exam scandals.

The letter also raises alarms about the safety of female candidates, citing reports of misconduct by exam staff and security personnel. The logistical chaos, including last-minute cancellations, has placed an undue burden on women traveling for the exams.

Growing Chorus for Systemic Reform

Other political leaders have joined the call for action. MP Chandrashekhar Aazad has also written to the SSC, highlighting similar concerns. The student community is demanding a high-level inquiry into the functioning of the SSC, a review of the exam vendor, and a re-examination for all affected candidates to ensure a fair and transparent process.

With the major SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam scheduled to begin on August 13, 2025, there is heightened anxiety among the nearly 3 million registered candidates, who fear a repeat of the recent failures. The pressure is now on the SSC to respond to these allegations and implement urgent reforms to restore faith in one of India’s most critical public recruitment systems.
